About Mindset Is Everything

While studying psychology and playing Division 1 basketball in the U.S. I saw firsthand how powerful this training is and it inspired me to create this program.

Josh Kunen
Founder and Athlete Mindset Coach

My name is Josh Kunen and I’m a proud South-Sudanese Australian.
Born in Ethiopia, I migrated to Australia with my family in 2004. I spent most of my childhood in the small country towns of Colac and Ballarat, Victoria. That’s where I fell in love with basketball—playing my first game at the age of 10.

I was terrible. I couldn’t catch, couldn’t shoot, and had no handles. But I loved the game so much that none of that mattered. I kept showing up.

As I got older, I improved. I made state and national teams. I earned a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport. But even then, I struggled with confidence. I was the athlete who passed up shots, scared to make mistakes, and constantly doubting myself—even while achieving success.

This began to change during my time in college. While studying psychology at the University of San Francisco, I had the chance to work with Olympic figure skater Yvonne Gómez Muñoz and renowned NBA mental skills coach Graham Betchart. This is when I truly understood the power of the mind. When trained correctly, your mind can unlock everything you’re capable of.

With this mindset shift I graduated from the USF program holding the record for the most wins in school history, a first-generation college graduate, and now—after finishing a season with the Brisbane Bullets—a professional basketball player.

I’m now launching this program to help others, whether you’re starting out or chasing the professional athlete dream, having the right mindset can change everything.

Graham Betchart is a renowned mental performance coach specialising in sports psychology, particularly within basketball. He has worked with numerous NBA athletes, including Aaron Gordon, Jaylen Brown, Zach Lavine, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins, as well as teams many teams such as the Sacramento Kings and the UConn Huskies.

Betchart is the creator of the "Play Present" methodology, which emphasises staying focused on the current moment and quickly moving on from past plays. He also developed the "MVP" program (Meditate, Visualise, Positive affirmation) and the "WIN" approach (What is Important Now), both designed to enhance athletes' mental resilience and performance.

This program has been created utilising the same training principles that Graham has used with myself and many other professional athletes.
